Alcohol or not alcohol in student housing?

Dear all,

Do you think alcohol should be free to use in the student housing on the campus of universities? Our school has a policy against the use of alcohol in its entire student housing including residence halls, apartment complex for single students and apartments for married students and students with children. However, recently there have been some requests made to the student housing as to allow the use of alcohol in only apartments for married students and they are now discussing as to whether or not they should allow it. Thanks for sharing your opinion in this regard.

Alcohol or not alcohol in student housing?
BEER BONG NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:It really isn't going to make a difference either way. If people want to drink, they are going to. If they are of legal age, they may as well be allowed. If not, they will just sneak it in. Then someone has to be paid to police the area %26amp; try to catch adults of legal age drinking. Why create a problem that doesn't have to be created. If students can't behave when they drink, they will end up being thrown out of college any way. Telling them that they can't drink will only make them want to more.
Reply:people will use it anyway. the real question is if you want to punish them for doing so or not. if you do, they will become much more sneaky about it and you may find them smuggling beer in in tubes of toothpaste, or mouthwash (with a bit of food coloring), or suntan lotion containers, or something. you can't stop it, but it would inevitably be your decision on if it is worth it to fight against it.

though if someone is drunk and damages people or property, they should get in trouble either way.
Reply:alcohol should not be free use in the student housing on the campus of school or university. alcohol makes lots of bad effect. it decrease the mental ability. this is strictly banded or restricted in the student environment. student has bounded with some rules and regulations. so, alcohol should not be allowed.
Reply:It's a tricky one - I like a few drinks (I'm 37) . As a younger person I didn't know when to stop and I got into all kinds of bad situations and used bad judgement in other areas of my life either as a direct or indirect result of my drinking.

My first drink was offered by my Mum, and there didn't seem to be any restrictions. All the adults I socialised with drank and often to excess. I can't remember anyone ever sitting me down and talking about the dangers of alcohol. I think my Mum thought that if I had her around to guide me it would be ok, but it just made me feel that it was ok generally. Adolescents should not be able to drink. If students housing includes adolescents then there should not be alcohol allowed. Eventually in this litigious society of ours noone will be alowing the purchase or consumation of alcohol on their premises for fear of a law suit. I'm surprised it's not happening more already. Schools are a sensible place to start....
