A student got 63 out of 78 questions correct on one test. On another test the student got 75 out of100 questio

Please help me! This is the complete question:a student got 63 out of 78 questions correct on one test. On another test the student got 75 out of100 question correct. Did the student get the same fraction correct on each test? Why?

Please answer this is our assignment in Math.....

A student got 63 out of 78 questions correct on one test. On another test the student got 75 out of100 questio
first test = 63/78

reducing it we get = 21/26

second test= 75/100

reducing it we get 3/4

21/26 is not equal to 3/4 though its quite near

so the student didnt get the same fraction correct on each test.

In percentages first test score is 80% while second tests score is 75%. so its not same
Reply:no... well if u divide 63 by 78 u get about .8 or 80% ... on the other test its a 75%
Reply:You have to simplify both fractions as much as possible, and then see whether or not they are equal. The second fraction is 75/100, which is 3/4 (divide top and bottom by common factors). I'll let you simplify the first fraction yourself.
Reply:To figure out , how many points given and taken off per question , divide 100 by 78 since there are 78 questions on the test. I got 1.2 points. Now subtract 63 from 78. You should get 15. Now, multiply 1.2 with 15. You should get 18. Now, subtract 18 from 100. Your answer: 82 The grade is 82.

A student getting 75 out of 100 questions correct is easy to compute. 1 point per question. The answer is : 75.

The student did not get the same fraction correct on each test. The first test the student got 82/100 correct, on the next test the student got 75/100 correct.

Reduce: 82/100 use 2 multiplies into both. 41/50

5 multiplies into 75/100 = 15/20 , use 5 again for 15/20=3/4

Fractions: 41/50 and 3/4

I hope I helped you.
Reply:My dear, 63 out of 78 is 63 X 100 /78=80.76% ( aprox.)

75 out of 100 is 75%

so the student got higher percentage in the first test.

The word percent means relating to cent( hundred.) If you want to calculate the fraction only it will be like 63/78 in first case and 75/100 in the second case. simplyfying, it will be 21/26 and 3/4.
Reply:I don't think your allowed to use yahoo answers to solve your homework. a simple calculator could solve this
Reply:this question is on comparison of fractions...thus you should first write the two situations in terms of fractions

63 out of 78 will be 63/78

and 75 out of 100 will be 75/100

comparing 63/78 %26amp; 75/100

to judge which is bigger we take the denominator of the right fraction %26amp; multiply it with the numerator of the left fraction %26amp; we do vice versa

so we have,

63*100 %26amp; 78*75

= 6300 %26amp; 5850

number on the left is bigger so fraction on the left will be bigger too

so 63 out of 78 questions is a bigger fraction as compared to 75 out of 100
