Canada student loans default who should i pay?

This is a strange situation. I first applied for my student loan when i was customer at the Royal Bank. Due to a quarrell, I switched banks. I continued with school and did my student loans through my new bank from then on in. I assumed that my entry level student loan payment was transferred to my current banking institution.

However, I got a call today from a collection agency stating that I have an outstanding debt with the Royal Bank over my student loans. I innitially found this puzzling because I am currently making my student loan payments through my current bank every month and on time.

Now, I don't have a lot of experience dealing with collection agencies, but the agent stated that the bill must be paid to them in full within a one week period. Failure to do so will result in them filing judment against me.

Good luck dealing with the Royal Bank over student loans, I was on interest relief and they began taking payments out of an account i never used putting it over 2,000.00 in the whole before a collection agency phoned me. I was still on interest relief, had all the paperwork to prove it and it still took Royal Bank over 3 years to stop harassing me through a collection agency. I finally told the collection agency to stick it where the sun don't shine and I would see them in court. For some strange reason, I never heard from the collection agency again and a few months later recieved word from RBC that my account was closed. They can be a nightmare to deal with so go back to your initial loan and see who issued it before giving them or anyone else a dime. Good luck.
Reply:Do you have a good relationship with the bank you deal with now? If so, go in and make an appointment to speak to a financial advisor - I think that is the correct title. I speak to one at Scotiabank about twice a year, because I find that SB is very eager for your business, and this is an excellent source of free advice. Your current bank can probably sort this out for you. I think that is who you need to ask. Best of luck with it.
