Student Council election?

I'm running for student body president at my high school. I have 3 opponents and it's going to be a very close race. Tell me if you consider this dirty politics: I told a few voters that when one of my opponent was student body president at our middle school, the student council fund was depleted and if they voted for my opponent, that would be the kind of leadership you could expect from her.

My opponent and friend was so angry with me when she received word of this even though I didn't accuse her of any wrongdoing and even though what I said was true as far as the depletion of the fund goes.

I am very sorry that she was hurt by this but I don't exactly see the wrongness of my action.

Do you think what I did was wrong?

Student Council election?
I think that what you did was perfectly acceptable. You are going to have to grow tougher skin if you want to hold any position of leadership. Yeah, if what you said was true, you are completely okay when you say it. Sometimes when you run for office people's toes get stepped on. Oh well, life goes on.
Reply:It's wrong, but you can't win an election if you play fair.
Reply:I do because what you said insinuates that it was directly related to her performance as president, as though she was the guilty party.
Reply:It's wrong, but you can't win an election if you play fair. It's no big deal
