This is definitely illegal and the student can bring action and probably get a big settlement. Go for it!!!!
Reply:You can sue for anything regardless of its validity.

What would you sue for... monetary damages or punishment?

Diplomatic channels within the university will cause him/her to get punished, however; monetary damages would be a stretch don't you think, considering the relationship was consensual.
Reply:yes- that does happen.

Talk with a lawyer.
Reply:Yes, however proving negligence by the university is a whole different ballgame. The student would have to prove that the University knew or should have known that the unethical conduct by the professor was likely. Also, the student would have to prove that an agent of the uninversity negligently or irresponsibly allowed the professor to gain access to the student's confidential information, and such access was a proximate cause of the professor's misconduct.
Reply:student and teacher relationships are frowned upon......not only because of the age difference but the fact that a teacher might pass u just because u give him head...........yes a student does have the right to sue the teacher but most have some type of proof because the teachers has rights as well
Reply:Complain to the administration first. If the administration doesnt do anything or tries to cover it up, THEN you sue the professor. Also, anybody can sue anybody, but they needs grounds for the lawsuit. If they dont have any grounds for the lawsuit or if its a frivolous lawsuit, then they are just wasting the judge's time and preventing the courts to put more criminals behind bars.

In college the student has a choice. The student can choose not to take anymore classes with that professor and stay away from that professor. The student could also get a restraining order to keep the professor away.

Do all the alternatives (like: complaining to the administration, staying away from the professor, getting a restraining order etc..) before suing the professor. Then it would free up more of the courts' time, so that they can put the murders, robbers, serial rapists etc behind bars or sentence them.
Reply:If the student made a complaint to the administration and the administration did nothing, or actively tried to cover it up.
Reply:Yes, if it was rape. Talk to a Lawyer.
Reply:yes if it was rape

y did that happen to u?
Reply:Of course everyone has the right to sue. But the question is - do you have the grounds to sue. I think you do if you can prove it. One question I have is this:

Did you not have the choice to report the professor first?
Reply:ok come on....if this person is an adult he/she shouldnt be asking such a stupid question. Did the "adult student" not learn anything growing up???....obviously action can be taken....I swear I hate these dumb questions.....
