Was the student disrespectful to the Senator?

When asked by a New Hampshire high school student what he would do for rights for LGBTs, US Presidential candidate John McCain said that he is opposed to any form of discrimination but supports the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy on gays in the military and does not support gay marriage or civil unions.

The student then asked "You want to take away someone's rights because you believe it's wrong?" to which McCain responded "I don't put that interpretation on my position, but I understand yours."

The student then said "I came here to see a good leader. I do not." The student was then booed by some in the audience and scolded by a school administrator.

Was the student disrespectful to Senator McCain, or merely stating his opinion?

Were those who booed disrespectful to the student, or merely giving their opinions?

Was the school administrator disrespectful to the student, or acting correctly as a school official?

Do you personally agree with what the student said or not?

Was the student disrespectful to the Senator?
I think the student voiced their opinion and the first amendment allows he/she that right. The booing, either way it is rude, but not entirely uncalled for. The administrator I believe was more concerned with manners than a true open dialouge but did not react brashly. Overal I think if McCain desired a more friendly enviroment a Highschool was the wrong place to go, he understood what to expect.

Personally I think Don't Ask DOn't tell is ludicrous and silly not to mention homophobic.
Reply:when the kid said: "I came here to see a good leader. I do not." THAT was disrespectfull

the ones who booed were also being disrespectful

the school administrator wasn't being rude, he was acting correctly as a school official + people could have killed him...he was being too troublesome
Reply:It depends on whether or not it was an "ask a question" format or "ask and debate/state opinion." Nah, I'll go even further and say it was their 1st amendment right to tell Sen. John McCain (a CAREER POLITICIAN - who can dish it out as well as take it, it is politics, after all and he understands MUD WILL BE FLUNG! However, the student was well within their right to their beliefs and by informing Sen. McCain that he was not the leader s/he had hoped he was, he was letting them down. Sen. McCain should KNOW his views/and or stances will AFFECT PEOPLE, REAL PEOPLE. By taking stands, you include or leave out others, automatically, either by your or their standards of conduct, etc.

Its not rocket science. Its just their opinion of dismay that he can't see that everyone deserves equal rights, not "special rights," just EQUAL.
Reply:The student did act somewhat disrespectful, but it's perfectly understandable considering that the senator has different views than him. I don't know about other people, but when someone just ignores the plight/problems of an entire group of people, I don't exactly feel inclined to show them respect.

The crowd was even more disrespectful. The student was merely stating his thoughts.

The school admin was prbly just doing their job and trying to keep the school out of negative spotlight.

I agree 110% with what the student said. The student stood up for what he believed and I think that's a great thing.
Reply:Of course it was disrespectful. How is that even a question? She fully intended it to be.

The student is not a presidential candidate who was pleasant enough to visit her school. Regardless of my opinion, I would have booed her for embarrassing my school.

Ditto on the school admin.

I don't like John McCain, but I hate people with a lack of class even more.

No

Yes

I agree with the students position and actions.
Reply:I believe that the student and the boo-er were only stating their opinion, but the administrator was wrong in scolding the student for stating that opinion.
Reply:Yes she was disrespectful. she probably lives in a man-man or women-women home, and they probably told her to do this. Here she asks him a question on his opinion, and then tells him he's not a good leader because of it. I think she should stop trying to fight her parents fight. I would have booed her as well.
