Back in 2003, I was in default on my student loans. Well, I decided to do something about it and went into the rehab program. I have since been on track with my student loan payment (making payments on time etc.). My questions are will the past default status be removed from my credit report? Also have any of you ever dealt with the student loan ombudsman on an issue similar or like this one.

Student Loans?
The default can be there for up to seven years, but if a company sees you have overcome that and are current and making good payments they will take it less into consideration usually.

Reply:If you have lates on you credit report, the lender can remove the lates. You either have to write them or call them and ask for them to remove the lates. You can always try www.planetfeedback.com and write a complain asking for the lates to be removed.

Student loan interest?
How much is too much interest? I have to get some private student loans for college, for the year it'll probably be around $8,000, what is a normal amount of interest for a private student loan, with no co-signer, but I do have great credit, from credit card I had before I was 18, but when I turned 18 it went on my credit report and made it really really good. So the question is, how much interest is too much interest? what is the reasonable amount I should have for my student loan?
Student loan interest?
Hi.
I am Clara and i saw your question about needing a loan,In the internet they are alot of scams out there.I decided to answer your question to prevent you being scammed.
I got a loan of $150,000 from an agency online and i was lucky not be scammed.
Contact them at email:globaly_aquinted_org@yahoo.com interest rate of 0.2% is simply great.they use a yahoo email account on our request because its makes contacting them easier
Reply:Good question and you are the only one who can answer it. The reasonable amount of debt to assume to attend college depends on your plans for repayment of that debt. For example, if you plan to work in the peace corp for years after you graduate, you probably wouldn't like to have to be making loan repayments. However, if you know that your grandparents have left a trust for you and you have full access to those funds once you turn 25, then you might be willing to borrow as much as the trust is worth.
FYI - the average student debt upon graduation is running around $20,000 for a 4 year degree.
Your question asks about interest - if you mean what's a reasonable interest rate, you should have to pay much higher than 8% as a student.
As an aside, there are a couple of professions which qualify for college debt reduction, eg if you are a teacher in certain inner city schools.
Reply:I'd have to agree with some of the other posters here in that 8% is expected. I wouldn't want to go any higher than 12%.
Of course most loans don't charge you the interest until 6 months after you graduate from school.
Here is a good blog you might want to check out...

Student loans?
Here is my problem:
I have no credit, have never worked, and do not have a co-signer.
I heard about pre-prime student loans. I applied for one and did not qualify, I don't know why. They say they take into consideration the student's gpa (mine is 3.04 and my major is chemistry-health professions )
I already have stafford loans and pell grant but don't qualify for parent plus and private loans.
Are there any other prime student loans or other loans, which I could qualify for?
Thank you very much and happy holidays

I went to my bank that I'd recently opened up an account with and had a talk with them with the same problem you're having. Luckily they had a loan program for students going into college like me. I'm getting just enough money to help me cover my expenses and a few extra to help pay for gas and whatever else I need help with. Thanks to Key Bank I'm now in college and getting a degree. :) Try going to a local bank and talking to them.

Reply:Are you getting the maximum amount in Stafford? Are they both subsidized AND unsubsidized? You may want to look into getting both (or the other if you have one of them already). Depending on what state you live in, they offer assistance for student who are in the low-income category. I myself, get the Washington State Need Grant and SEOG Grant. Also look into Work-study. I assume you fill out the FAFSA if you are getting Stafford Loans? You can check the box to get Work-Study.
Other then that, look into scholarships within the chemistry and science department or of course, good old fashioned working (I work 2 jobs). Hope that helps!

Student Loans?
I'm really worried, i'm a student and when i took out my student loan i was told it would be a non repayable grant as i live with my mum who is on a low income. Then i was told i do have to repay it, but it is interest free. Then i found out i am paying interest, and read in the paper today that the current interest rate on student loans is 4.8% and that on the average loan of £12,000 if no repayments are made the interest could be a staggering £526 a year!! Can any graduates tell me a bit more, how much do you pay back each month? I would never have gone to uni if i'd known how much it was gonna cost! xx

Go back through all the pay work you have and then go to the Citizen Advise Bureau, because they will be able to help you. The thing is if they told you that it was a non repayable grant, they can't just change the terms to suit them. You definitely should NOT be paying interest on a grant, take all your paperwork to CAB and see an adviser and hopefully you can get this sorted

Student Finance for University - Changed Uni after getting results, what to do?
I have applied for Student Finance back in June 2007.
In the form I wrote that I would be going to Westminster as my firm choice, however my results wasn't able to get me to there.
Now I have a place in Uni of Greenwich, and today I have recieved a letter about Student Finance, however it says Uni of Westminster, and I should take it to enrollment day.
How do I contact Student Finance to tell them that I have changed Uni?
Student Finance for University - Changed Uni after getting results, what to do?
Phone Student Finance company, explain this to them, they will then tell you if they need to send out another letter etc. Trust me they are used to this type of thing, so it won't be a hassle for them to deal with. By doing this you are then keeping yourself right, and it can't fall back on you.
Reply:The amount of your financial aid/ loan wont change.
If you went through clearing then student finance will be aware of the situation although it doesn't really make much of a difference even if your LEA have agreed to pay your fees. If that has been agreed then which ever uni accept and enrol you will request them.
Call your LEA or have a look on www.studentfinancedirect.com

Student loan consolidation?
I just exited my grace period and received my first student loan bills. I have a lot of student loan debt (all federal loans), and my goal is to pay them back as quickly as possible - hopefully within 10 years or so. Is student loan consolidation right for me? I'd like a lower interest rate, but I don't necessarily want to lower my monthly payments if that means I'll be paying my loans back 2 or 3 times over due to interest over 25 years. Thanks!
Student loan consolidation?
Maybe you can try below website to get the information you need. It's about student loan consolidation articles for your second opinion.
Reply:Your best bet is to consolidate your loans. Even know it extends your term you have the option to pay more every month and if you need that extra cash it their. Check out www.Federal-direct.com or call 866-811-7361 Report It
Reply:Searching for solution to your student loan? you can get important information regarding your issues at http://www.abcofstudentloan.com or http://www.ABCofEducationloan.com.
In case you still need some other help, just fill a short form and an executive will call you to help you personally. And all this absolutely free.
NO CATCH
Reply:If you want a lower interest rate then yes, consolidate. Basically what you'll be doing is obtaining one large loan with one bank in exchange for paying off all of the small loans with different banks. By doing all of your loans with one bank you'll receive an overall lower interest rate.
Generally you can always pay more than the minimum monthly payment, and that is always a good idea.
Check out finfo.com. You can go there and get up to four competing offers for student loan consolidations. Kind of like a lendingtree for student loan consolidations. No obligations so you can check it out and always decide not to consolidate, at no cost to you. The company was started by recent college grads too.
Good luck!
Reply:Consolidation should be used as a debt manager not for a way to necessarily lower your interest rate since the rate on a consolidation loan is the weighted average of all your loans and rounded up I think to 1/8 of a point. I could techincally consolidate to lower your payment and lock your rate if your loans are variable and pay extra to avoid going over the 10 year month and months that you may struggle just pay the min and then go back another month and pay more to keep on track. Remember dont consolidate any perkins loan since those have a fixed rate already of 5 %

Student Loans?
I'm currently in grade 12, and I'm in the process of applying to universities and for student loans.
On the OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) website, they only have applications for 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.
For the 2007-2008 application, I would fill out the form that indicates I'm in a postsecondary program that STARTS any time between August 1, 2007, and July 31, 2008.
There is no application on the OSAP website for the 2008-2009 school year, which is when I'll be in university.
So, when do I apply for OSAP? When I'm already IN university? I thought that you apply for student loans in grade 12, right before you start your postsecondary education.
Student Loans?
You will need to, by the summer before you go to school. It sounds like they are just later getting their forms up. Perhaps you can find a paper copy to send in.
Reply:Briefly: Try to Avoid student loans if at all possible.
